Radha Madhava Kalyanam Fundraiser Dec 18 1pm - 6pm

The proposed Radha-Madhava Kalyanam by Sangita Acharya Thiruvaiyaru SR Krishnan and his fine team of professional musicians will be the first of its kind. Radha Kalyanam, a Harikatha/musical presentation in its current form in India, has been in vogue for about 200 years. Sri Krishnan has advised that this unique and one-of-a-kind presentation, will be presented in a 4-part sequence with 5 to 10 minutes intermission between each of those presentations. The first part will be an abridged and fast tempo paddati version of nAma Sankeertanam. The Second part has not been presented earlier anywhere by any other musician or sankeertana bhagavata, so far. Sri Krishnan will explain how this part titled 'Radha-Madhavam' was specially put together with compositions from Sri Jayadeva, Sri nArAyaNa Teertha, Sri Kshetrayya, and OotthukkADu VenkaTakavi. This musical presentation will have very brief introduction, in Hari-katha style, of Radha-Madhavam, as perceived and enjoyed by these great musical saints. The third part will be DivyanAma sankeertanam including deepa-pradikshaNam, Unchavritti and preamble for Kalyanam. The fourth and final part will be the divine wedding of Radha with Lord Madhava, the poorNavatAra Krishna. There will be about 70 to 80 compositions in about a dozen Indian languages, drawn from scores of saint composers; music to most of those renditions has been set by Sri Krishnan in more than 100 rAgams (from both Carnatic and Hindusthani traditions).
